Dear Friends

The topic of educational reform, aside from inducing yawns or eye-rolling sighs, is bruised and battered from many years of contentious debate about how to fix it. Troubling data are released annually, and the subsequent urgent calls for radical interventions grow louder.

So, instead of writing another dry piece on the needy state of education in South Africa (and indeed throughout the world), I thought I would instead share this incandescent poetry with you, from the great Persian poet of the 14th century, Hafez.
